A Few Good Pointers on Furniture Storage

If you are planning on moving from one home to another, it is often convenient to put your furniture in storage while you are making the move. For one thing, its so much easier to get yourself to your new home first, so you can make preparations. For instance, maybe you would like to have the carpets and floors cleaned and prepared before you bring in your furniture.

Two Basic Choices

So you basically have two choices when it comes to storing your furniture. One choice is to call in the professionals and let them handle the job and the other is to pack, move and store your furniture yourself. The obvious benefit of using professionals is that it is a heck of a lot easier because they handle everything.

Doing the Job Yourself

The downside of handing the job over to professionals is that it can cost a lot of money, depending on the amount of furniture that you have to handle. Assuming that you are like a lot of people who chose to handle the job themselves, there are a few things that you will want to be aware of.

Rent a Large Enough Storage Unit

The first thing is that you are going to need to do is to rent a storage space at a self storage rental facility. Make sure that you have a good look at the size of the unit before your rent it. This is because you are going to need a larger space then you think. Remember it is better to have too large a space to store furniture in the too small.

Protect Your Furniture While it is in Storage

Don't skimp on your lock for your unit. Buy one of the big heavy, high tech locks that they will have for sale at the front office of the storage facility. Also, don t assume that there aren't any creatures, such as rats and mice scurrying around your unit at night. This is why you will need to buy and put out mouse poison packs in your rental unit if you are storing padded furniture.
